Kangaroo Experience with granola feeding (weekend)
StartJan 20
EndJan 20
Spend 45 minutes face to face learning and interacting with Red Kangaroos. This experience includes: feeding the kangaroos treats (granola), time to take individual photos, learn about the kangaroos and marsupials from our "Zoo Crew", and learning about the missions of Zoo Chateau. The interaction will be 45 minutes with the first 15 minutes being dedicated to signing liability waivers and a safety orientation.  Please note that this interaction is not the best environment for children under 3 years old. If parents would like to have their children that are under 3 participate, please ensure that there is an adequate number of adults to trade off holding or watching the kids as the kangaroos can react to crying and sudden movements. This is to make sure that you and our other guests get the most out of the interaction with our animals. Guests should be comfortable around all types of animals. As a disclaimer: cats live on the property and occasionally dogs will also be present on the property. The itinerary for the Kangaroo experience will include: - Safety orientation on how to interact with the kangaroos (including signing release of liability) - If the roos are inside, two guests at a time will get the opportunity to go into the enclosure to feed the kangaroos and take photos as well as pet the roos. If they are outside, the group will go out into the enclosure and get the chance to individually feed and interact with and take photos with the roos.-The Zoo Crew Representative will give information about Bindi and Rooney, and kangaroos in general, and guests may ask any questions that they have- Meanwhile, the rest of the group will be watching and will be able to take photos from the viewing area (or within the enclosure) while they await their turn, or after the conclusion of their turn DISCLAIMER: Here at Zoo Chateau, our first priority is our animal and guest safety. If for some reason we feel that it is not in the best interest of the kangaroos or the guests, we reserve the right to cancel. In the event that Zoo Chateau cancels an interaction, guests will receive a voucher for a future date.  Please arrive on time as we will begin promptly. Entry may be refused to guests who arrive after the intended start time.   FAQs Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a paying legal guardian or adult assuming responsibility. Waivers/release of liability must be signed as soon as you enter the property, therefore minors cannot participate in this experience on their own. Since this is a legal document, ID may be required to be presented. This will be strictly enforced.  Can someone come observe and not participate for no charge? No. Due to the limited amount of space and our intimate experience with our animals, unfortunately we cannot allow for people to just observe. Please email us directly if you have additional questions about this.   What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? We encourage you to bring a camera or phone for taking photos (no flash photography), clothes that can get dirty, and closed-toed shoes. Zoo Chateau shall not be held responsible for any lost, stolen, or ruined personal items while you are participating in the interactions or while presiding on the property.   How can I contact the organizer with any questions? The Spleen and Splenectomy Procedures: Who, What, When, Why? with Dr. Nekesa Morey, BSc, BVM&S
StartJan 23
EndJan 23
Join Dr. Nekesa Morey, BSc, BVM&S, for her lecture:  "The Spleen and Splenectomy Procedures:  Who, What, When, Why?" The spleen is an intricate organ, visualized usually at the most ventral aspect of the abdomen with both AFAST and abdominal radiographs. Its structure is usually divided into the head, body and tail of the spleen, with various vessels connecting to the spleen before supplying the rest of the abdominal organs. Its primary function includes haematopoiesis, circulation and destruction of red blood cells as well as primary immunologic function. As it is directly connected to the circulation, it is a primary organ for the release of lymphocytes and monocytes, which increase antibody release to fight disease. As the animal continues to get older, the spleen can become more susceptible to the development of diseases directly to the organ. The most common biological insults include splenic torsion, splenomegaly and splenic masses. Usually, depending on the clinical scenario that arises, a splenectomy can be performed to remove the spleen. This is an organ that an animal can live without, and depending on the cause, most animals can continue to do well without their spleen. A splenectomy may be performed under emergency circumstances or in some instances can be an elective procedure. This lecture will go into further significant detail about the primary functions of the spleen, as well as any differences in structure and physiologic function between small mammals and humans. We will continue to describe the three diseases mentioned above, the more likely signalments we would expect in the veterinary world that could develop these diseases and therefore would warrant a splenectomy. We will continue to describe the procedure of a splenectomy itself and discuss medical management if a splenectomy is not opted for. Overall, this lecture should increase confidence in the approach to diseases involving the spleen, and increase awareness of its functions during disease.  Lunch will be provided One (1) hour CE - CACVT approval pending for Technicians Please arrive 15 minutes early to check-in. Attendees will need to enter the hospital at the south east entrance, just off of 43rd Ave and Kipling.

Smoky Palms Supper Club
StartJan 25
EndJan 25
Welcome to the Smoky Palms Supper Club. I have been cooking all my life. Almost all my happiest childhood memories revolve around food – spending hours in the kitchen with grandmother, mum and sister as we immersed ourselves in family recipes and traditions and added to and enriched them with our own. We were fortunate enough to spend endless summers together in Europe, experiences that have of course had a huge influence on my cooking today, alongside the extensive time I have spent in North and Central America. Before having to take a break from work to grow and hatch my babies, I ran a very successful catering and events company based in London. I’ve never stopped cooking, but the time has now come when I can return to the kitchen professionally. Hosting small supper clubs in my own home in Matching Green, Essex (which I designed, and my husband and I built ourselves) is my way of sharing the joy that comes from gathering together over delicious food made with care and love. With a focus on celebrating seasonal – and wherever possible, local – food and produce, this is a way of life that is intrinsic to so many cultures around the world, and it is fundamental in my life too. Please join me for one of these very special evenings with friends old and new. Tickets: £35 per person, to include a three course set menu tailored to each event, and a cocktail upon arrival. Full location details are issued upon ticket purchase. Please bring your own wine (or alternative drinks) to enjoy with dinner. Places are limited; please book early to avoid disappointment. Further dates to be announced. Check out/follow @smokypalms on Instagram for monthly sample menus, updates and inspiration. Please contact smokypalms@gmail.com if you have any questions. IF YOU HAVE ANY DIETARY REQUIREMENTS OR ALLERGIES PLEASE INFORM ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
