Debbie Deboo - is a former teacher and currently an award winning photographer.  Debbie was medically retired from teaching around 15 years ago when she became ill with M.E. a debilitating chronic illness.  Debbie started photography as a way of keeping her body and mind active whilst learning a new skill.  She now teaches others whilst inspiring them with her visual photography blog on social media. Event Host: Tina Calder - is a writer who loves to write.  Despite having a 20 year career in journalism, Tina is an advocate of creative writing both personally and professionally as a way to regulate, stimulate and improve mental and emotional health.  Over the years Tina has been very open about her chronic health conditions and uses blogging through social media to communicate this to her audience.  Tina also blogs at The Content Club teaching people copywriting, content and blogging skills whilst striving to learn and keep her own up to date. Additional Contributors: Michelle Connolly - is a teacher who took her love of learning and teaching and created the online YouTube channel and blog LearningMole.  Through her channels Michelle aims to show parents how they can be more active in their children’s education.  Her online tutorial videos have impacted in excess of 1 million people globally.  Through blogging and vlogging Michelle and her family have connected with other families who are keen to learn and explore and have used their experiences to give others a new perspective on everything from homework and school curriculum to what to do and where to go across Northern Ireland. Darren Diven - a marketer who created travel brand NI Explorer whilst working full time in advertising agencies. He is now ‘going for it’ as a young self employed entrepreneur and has undertaken projects such as Instagram Takeovers for organisations like Tourism Northern Ireland / Discover Northern Ireland.  Darren’s blog encourages people to be active by getting out and about around the country, to learn as they discover the world around them and to connect with others as they embark on their journeys as well as online. Jomon Lecture & Workshop Master Potters Ifurai, Genya Murakami, and Ryujiro Oyabu Simpson United Methodist Church  is hosting master potters from Japan for a lecture and hands-on workshop in partnership with Studio Arts Boulder. "Jomon" means "cord pattern" and describes the decorative style of pottery made during this ancient era in Japan. The event at Simpson United Methodist Church will include a lecture (free to attend), a potluck lunch, and a hands-on workshop (ages 12+). Learn ancient ceramics techniques of the Jomon era, starting with a coil pot and incorporating elemental symbols to create dramatic forms. Pottery students of all levels, including beginners, are invited to register. Seicento’s Spring Concert, In your Court: A Royal Tour, explores the royal patronage that secured the livelihood of many composers in the Baroque era. Composers traveled widely, working in various royal households and influencing each other’s musical style. Seicento takes audiences on a compelling musical journey highlighting the distinctive qualities of music in the royal courts. Hear hauntingly beautiful verse anthems composed for the Chapel Royal in England, theatrical music composed for the Viennese court, the characteristic style of French Baroque music under Louis XIV, all the way to music heard in the court of Tsar Peter the Great in Russia. Seicento is one of the few Colorado ensembles to tackle the unique performance-practice challenges posed by French Baroque music, and this program includes Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s exquisite Magnificat setting.

Flexible Works:  flexible working as part of the good work agenda for HR professionals Having flexibility in a job role is seen as desirable by over 70% of the UK working population. However recent research undertaken by the CIPD for their Megatrends report highlights that the extent to which we are working flexibly has seen little change over the last 15 years. With CIPD Chief Executive, Peter Cheese, chairing the government-led Taskforce on Flexible Working and flexible working being seen as a key component of the good work agenda, the Coventry & Warwickshire branch are delighted to be running a webinar on flexible working. As a branch we have historically run most of our professional development events in an evening which is not convenient for all our membership. Therefore in the spirit of operating more flexibly and inclusivity, we are experimenting with the webinar format for the first time at branch level. The webinar will last for one hour, will be hosted by branch Vice-Chair, Sally Dhillon, who will give an overview of the webinar functionality in addition to an introduction to the subject matter and #theCWdifference good work campaign. Jennifer started an employee network to better support individuals and managers with the challenges of balancing parenting and work. The network has gone from strength to strength and discusses many issues, providing a support network and buddy system for pregnant women and new and “experienced” parents. Atkins recently signed the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s Working Forward Pledge publicly demonstrating its commitment to continuous improvement. Flexible working is a key theme in their 2019 action plan and forms a core part of the Business Strategy, People Strategy and Diversity and Inclusion Strategy. Ruth Gawthorpe is a passionate champion of Smart Working. Here’s her story.....  20 years ago, Ruth and her business partner, Oliver Thompson, started rolling out smart working options, such as term time teams, gym teams and compressed weeks into a corporate organisation. They’ve not stopped since. They have developed a methodology for successful implementation and, crucially, know what it takes to avoid the pitfalls. 5 years ago Ruth became wheelchair bound for a while and realised just how much talent cannot do the commute 5 days a week. Today, she’s CEO of the Smart Working Revolution. Ruth and the team support Business Leaders who are passionate about adopting Smart Working because it benefits business, employees and customers as well. When adopted widely, the impact of Smart Working on society will be powerful. That’s why Ruth and Olly lobby Government bodies and National associations to support organisations who implement smart options.
